Humates for tree nurseries

Humates are compound biological products which are the salts of humic acids. Plants use them as a natural metabolite. In the natural conditions the humates appear because of humification, hydrolysis and the soil microorganism activity.

Humates represent a special group of universal plant growth regulators and stress adaptogens being incomparable in this respect. They help a plant to generate natural growth regulators (phytohormones) and activate their functional activity maintaining its optimal high level. The range of humate action is not limited by the plant growth and development boosting but also covers the plant nutrition, soil and water, increases the plant resistance to unfavorable environmental factors and diseases.

The results of humic preparation influence on the fir spruce and northern pine seedlings at various growth regimes demonstrated the substance application boosts the seedling growth and development.

The analysis of average spruce germ root lengths compared with the control results showed that the preparation is efficient at any solution concentration. The maximum boosting effect compared with the control indicators reaches 51.7% in the preparation with a concentration of 10.0 ml/10 l.

The boosting effect humates have on the pine germ roots’ elongation was observed in all test variations. The highest influence the preparation has at the highest concentration (10.0 ml/10 l) reaching 10.2%.

The most active stimulation of the seedling elongation is observed at the concentration 10.0 ml/10 l water. This result exceeds the control one already by 20.2%. The change of the seedling height growth in the plants raised with the preparation application is in the limit of 13.0%.

In terms of the product influence on the seedling growth at the root collar diameter the most active concentrations were 5.0 ml/10 l and 10.0 ml/10 l. Under the humate influence the average seedling root collar diameters compared with a control group were larger by 20.1% and 24.5%, correspondingly.

The highest humate activation along the root system is also observed at the highest concentrations of 10.0 ml/10 l (12.7%) and 5.0 ml/10 l (7.1%).

The weight of tested seedlings with the humate application increases by 13.46%. After a mass emergence of pine seedlings, it is necessary to water the seed beds every 10-15 days. At the humidity up to 40% during the active seedling growth one needs to water the seedlings every 3-5 days, and only in this case it is possible to create the optimal soil humidity for the pine seedlings treated with humates.

When growing pine yearlings on poor sandy loam soils and fertile light loamy soils, one tested various forms of potassium humate combined with modern herbicides – Gezagard-50, Roundup, Utal and fertilizers. The best results are obtained during the tests when the seeds were treated with humates at seedling growing without any watering but adding synthetic nitrogen-phosphorous and potassium fertilizers as well as the herbicide Gezagard-50, the dose of 4kg/ha. It was established that at the pine seedling growing with watering humate application was efficient. The weight of seedlings grown with the help of humates was higher than the one of control plants by 13-46%.

The humates improving the adaptive plant properties showed good results at pine tree growing. Their application is reasonable from the sanitary and hygienic and environmental points of view as they are harmless for people, animals and the environment in general. They make a good combination with advanced herbicides, mineral fertilizers, are easy digestible by soil microflora and completely decomposable under sunlight without accumulating in eco-systems.
